Fishing Trip (2015)

A tisket A tasket, a feast is in the basket!

Lukas, hunting Pike!

Spending a moment marveling at the Pike's epic jawline before we put him back into the water to go about his business.

Crafting Projects
Armouring by Lukas

My little workshop amidst the junk.

Tools of the trade. Items include padded gloves, a vice, a railroad spike with a rounded end, a dishing stump, a planishing stake made of a ball hitch, a ball peen hammer, a planishing hammer, some files, some sandpaper, a random orbit sander, and some safety equipment.

The pair in progress!

Gamboised Aventail by Donna

This is the leather that came with the maille aventail. It was not made to fit my houndskull and needed to be replaced. Here I have removed it from the maille section.

I made a paper pattern for the aventail by drafting right on the helm. The pattern was then transferred to the leather.

My grandson Declan approves of the visor!

Now what do I do with this?

Nathan made the shield, and Lukas made the guige and enarmes (straps) and padding.

Some wee kiddie swords I made with my Dad. He turned most of the handles on the lathe, although I made the first one -- slowly. Blades are of hickory, which should soak up a lot of abuse, and "jewels" for the girls are in the brazil-nut pommels. Burned the kids names into the blades with Tolkien's modified Anglo-Saxon runes (i.e., from the Hobbit). I would have made all the blades tapered except for a few screw-ups with the lathe and a hand saw...
